Agency

by Matt Miller, Production Manager

I recently saw multiple influencers posting a phrase “Choose your hard.”  This statement was procced by two opposites.  For example, “Being single is hard.  Being married is hard. Choose your hard.”  This statement boils down to a different problem I have seen in our society, and it needs to be addressed.  The problem is the lack of agency we have over our own life.

Google’s definition of the word agency states, “action or intervention, especially such as to produce a particular effect.”  This definition drives me to believe that agency starts with me taking a step and working on improving my life.  Agency not the current situation but instead what am I going to do today to achieve what I want in life.

When I live with agency in my life I stop letting “life” happen to me and instead I take “bull by the horn”.  This year we can all do this.  If this past year was difficult because the tractor kept breaking down maybe start a preventive maintenance plan and stick to it.  If you can’t figure out why the bank account is empty all the time start a budget.  If you feel like anxiety and stress are getting to be to much start going to church and spending time with people that are grateful.  Whatever your situation might be, it is never too late to act and change the problems you are facing.

If this concept is still foreign to you, I highly recommend the book by Gary Keller The One Thing.  In this book he talks about how to figure out what is the one thing that if you did it your life would be drastically improved.  This will help you to focus on what is the next right step.  For farmers this may help you figure out how to make your business profitable.  For home gardens this may help grow your yield.  For others that are reading this it may help you figure out a way to get a pay bump.  Wherever you are on your journey around the Sun I hope that this finds you and helps you to realize you can overcome whatever your hard is.

Here at Fertrell we try to have agency with “Healing the Earth and Feeding the World; Better Naturally!”  If you have questions about soil issues our agronomy team is here to help.  If you have sick animals our animal nutrition team is prepared to answer questions.  We believe in having agency over what God has entrusted to us and striving to improve the lives of our customers.  Please don’t let life pass you by but instead I implore you join into living a rich life.
